Our Roots

LFDI began in 2018 as a true grassroots movement within the Lake Frederick community. What started as a small group of neighbors determined to support Democratic candidates quickly grew into one of the most active civic organizations in the region.

In the summer of 2018, a few residents recognized the promise of congressional candidate Jennifer Wexton. They opened their home to neighbors for campaign organizing and fundraising. That grassroots energy helped fuel a historic victory as Jennifer Wexton flipped Virginia’s 10th Congressional District—marking the first time a Democrat won the district in more than 30 years. From that historic "blue wave" victory, LFDI was officially born-and so was a growing movement of engaged, informed, and action-oriented neighbors.

Building Our Community

As neighborhood interest rapidly expanded, a leadership team formed and together they built the foundational infrastructure to strengthen the group, developing:

• The LFDI Street Captains Brigade for door-to-door neighborhood outreach
• Digital Spaces, including the official LFDI website and Facebook Group
• Strategic Partnerships with like-minded organizations, including the Winchester-Frederick County Democratic Committee
• Our Iconic Logo which can now be seen across the Winchester area on shirts, magnets, and signs

Why We Include Independents

People often ask why “Independents” are included in our name. The answer is simple: from the very beginning, neighbors who identified as Independents sought us out because they wanted to be part of the movement. LFDI proudly welcomes people of all backgrounds who believe in democracy, civic participation, equality, and respectful advocacy. Today, our growing member database includes close to 800 supporters right here in Lake Frederick!

We are a Powerful Force

Democratic candidates throughout the region know that Lake Frederick is a powerful, engaged community. Our members show up, speak out, and vote. Our precinct, Canterburg, has the highest voter turnout in the county! We consistently support public service and democratic values. And together we make a difference.
